Your Website Looks Fine and Still Doesn’t Convert. Here’s Why
Traffic that arrives and leaves is a design problem, not a marketing one. Six things that cost Cork businesses enquiries.
The short answer
A website that attracts visitors and produces no enquiries usually has a conversion problem rather than a traffic problem. The common causes are an unclear statement of what the business does, contact routes buried below the fold, slow mobile performance, and no evidence that anyone else has trusted the business.
- First diagnostic: can a stranger say what you do, in five seconds, from the top of the page?
- Most traffic is mobile: design and test there first
- Most common omission: no proof — no reviews, no results, no named clients
- Where to check: analytics for pages with traffic and no onward action
Five seconds to say what you do
Open your homepage and read only what is visible without scrolling. If it says “Welcome to our website” or “Innovative solutions for modern business”, a visitor still does not know what you sell or whether you serve them.
Say the thing plainly. What you do, who for, where. It is not a creative constraint — it is the entire job of that space.
Make contacting you the easiest action on the page
Every page should offer an obvious next step. Not buried in a footer, not behind a menu, not only on the contact page.
Offer more than one route, because people differ in what they will actually use — a form, an email address, and a messaging option covers most preferences. A visitor who has to hunt for how to reach you generally does not.
Mobile is the real site
Most of your visitors are on a phone, often on mobile data, often outdoors. A hero image that looks impressive on a desktop can be three seconds of blank screen there.
Test on an actual phone on an actual mobile connection, not a resized desktop browser. The gap between those two experiences is where a lot of enquiries disappear.
Nobody believes an unsupported claim
Every business says it is reliable and experienced. None of it registers, because the visitor has read it on every competitor site already.
What registers is specifics: a review with a name attached, a result with a number in it, a named client. We publish ours on the results page for exactly that reason — the figures do work that adjectives cannot.
Forms that ask for too much
Every additional field costs you completions. A first enquiry does not need a company size, a budget range and a preferred contact time.
Name, contact detail, and a sentence about what they need. Ask the rest in the reply, once they are already talking to you.
Build the SEO in rather than bolting it on
The expensive version of this is a site designed first and made findable afterwards, which usually means rebuilding the structure that was just signed off.
Heading hierarchy, URL structure, page speed and schema are cheaper to get right during the build than to retrofit. That is why our web design work starts from technical foundations rather than adding them at the end.
Where this fits: Web Design Cork
Web design at SEO Star Agency means mobile-first, conversion-focused websites built on technical SEO foundations from the first build rather than retrofitted afterwards.
