How to Get Your Business Cited by ChatGPT and AI Overviews
AI assistants cite sources. Being one of them is a different job from ranking first, and the work is more structural than most SEO.
The short answer
Getting cited by an AI assistant means being one of the sources it draws on when answering a question. It depends on a page stating a complete answer in a form that can be lifted out of context, clear structure, machine-readable markup, and other sites corroborating what you say about yourself.
- Also called: GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) or AEO (Answer Engine Optimization)
- What it is not: a way to guarantee a mention — nobody controls that, including Google
- Biggest lever: self-contained answers near the top of a page
- Typical investment: €500–€1,200 per month
Write answers that survive being lifted out
An assistant extracts a passage and presents it without the surrounding page. If your answer depends on the paragraph above it — “as mentioned, this costs…” — it cannot be used.
State the whole thing in one place. Name the subject explicitly instead of saying “we” or “it”. Every page on this site opens with a block that does exactly this, and it is the single highest-leverage change we make.
Structure is machine-readable or it is not
Headings that form a real outline, lists that are actually lists, tables that are actually tables. A page where the visual hierarchy is done with font sizes and bold text reads to a parser as one undifferentiated block.
This is the same discipline as good on-page SEO. The difference is that the cost of getting it wrong used to be small and now is not.
Schema gives the machine the facts directly
Structured data states in a machine-readable form what a page is about, who published it, what a service costs and where it is offered. It does not make you rank, and it does remove ambiguity at the moment a system is deciding whether it understands you well enough to cite you.
For a local business the useful ones are Organization or LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList, cross-referenced with @id so they describe one entity rather than several unrelated fragments.
Consistency across the web is what builds the entity
An assistant is more confident citing a business whose details agree everywhere it looks. Same name, same address, same description across your site, your Google Business Profile and every directory.
This is the same NAP consistency that matters for local SEO, which is convenient — the work pays twice.
What nobody can promise you
No agency controls whether ChatGPT mentions you. The systems change, the citation formats change, and what worked in one model version can stop working in the next.
What can be done is to make a site genuinely eligible: clear, well-structured, factually consistent, and backed by real third-party citations. That is the honest version of this service, and it is the one on our FAQ too.
Where this fits: AI SEO & GEO/AEO
AI SEO — also called GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) or AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) — structures a website so AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini can find, understand and cite it. Typical investment is €500–€1,200 per month.
